Witopia Review: Hide Your IP Address With a VPN

I decided to try the Witopia VPN service a few months ago and I'll share my little Witopia review with you here.

If you have any interest in Internet privacy you are probably familiar with the role IP addresses play in identifying particular systems online. If not, here's a brief explanation:

A numerical, unique address is assigned to your computer or connection when you connect to the Internet. Websites can use this address to identify you and link things like Google search terms to your particular identifier.

For the sake of anonymity finding ways to hide your IP address is popular and important. Some people use free or paid proxy servers, others opt for a Virtual Private Network (VPN) service. An advantage of using a VPN is the fact that this type of service actual creates a secure, encrypted "tunnel" between your system and the VPN service provider which is helpful when using your system on an insecure network like you find at hotels and coffee shops.

The service I use is the Personal VPN PPTP service. PPTP stands for Point to Point Tunneling Protocol and is just the software technology used to make the connection. PPTP virtual private networks are usually less expensive to subscribe to than more advanced protocol VPNs like an SSL service.

I have found the Personal VPN PPTP service to be high quality overall. There are a large number of connections options around the globe so you are not likely to run out of choices in that area. The service is also quite reliable. I have had trouble on a few occasions with my connection attempts failing but as I mentioned there are many servers to choose from so if one fails you can usually connect via another server immediately.

A more troublesome problem is when you lose connectivity to the server in the middle of web browsing or downloading. I have found this to be a rare problem but it has happened on a few occasions. Considering use on a daily basis this is fairly insignificant in the overall scheme of things.

One big problem some people experience with VPNs in general is poor connection speed. I've had zero problems with this myself and rate the service very high in the speed category. I use a 1.5Mpbs DSL connection and can expect to achieve 1.4 to 1.5Mbps download speeds while using the VPN.

In summary, I've been very pleased with my experience and expect to use the service for some time to come.

Motorola merintis jalan membangkitkan kembali nama besarnya. Sejak pamornya meredup, praktis baru awal tahun ini Motorola terlihat menggeliat. Tak hanya serius di pasar ponsel cerdas, vendor asal AS tersebut pun mulai menjajaki segmen bawah. Sebuah seri berjuluk EX115 diluncurkan ke pasar tanah air.
Disain
Motorola EX115 mengadopsi model QWERTY yang tengah jadi trend. Bentuknya ergonomis dan agak berbeda dari disain ponsel lokal yang umumnya identik. Melihat harga dan tampilannya, bisa dipastikan ponsel ini hadir untuk menangkal dominasi QWERTY lokal.
Namun, begitu memegang ponsel ini tekstur plastik nan ringkih membuat indahnya kesan pertama perlahan memudar. Rasanya mutu casing EX115 tak jauh berbeda dari beberapa seri yang pernah digelontorkan vendor lokal. Untung saja, balutan karet di casing belakang serta finishing berkelas bisa menyelamatkannya dari tudingan bahwa mutu EX115 sekelas ponsel Cina.

Nilai lebih yang pantas diapresiasi terletak pada tuts keypad QWERTY dari karet lembut. Ukurannya memang kecil, namun ternyata nyaman saat dipakai mengetik. Di atas keypad tertanam tombol navigasi, tombol home, tombol shortcut kamera, tombol call, back dan tombol end.
Tak ada yang spesial di sektor disain jika dibandingkan Samsung Chat T322. Sama-sama keluaran vendor papan atas yang sekelas setidaknya Chat T322 sudah dijejali tombol navigasi optical trackpad.
Dual SIM card
Sektor ini menarik disorot lantaran baru sedikit seri keluaran vendor papan atas yang mengadopsinya. Keberadaan opsi dual SIM card pada Motorola EX115 tentu saja menjadi ancaman tersendiri buat vendor ponsel Cina.
Pada ponsel ini, tak ada tombol khusus untuk mengatur fitur dual SIM card (GSM-GSM) yang disediakan. Namun, setiap Anda menekan tombol call, akan muncul pilihan jaringan (SIM1 atau SIM2) yang hendak dipakai. Praktis, meski tanpa tombol call tambahan seperti yang biasa ditemukan dalam ponsel Cina.

Soal daya tangkap sinyal, kedua slot mampu beroperasi sama baiknya dan bisa berjalan bersamaan. Satu catatan saja, seperti kasus yang terjadi saat pengujian Samsung Chat T322, saat salah satu kartu menerima panggilan, kartu lain tak bisa dihubungi pada saat bersamaan.  
Layar & Menu
Layar TFT Motorola EX115 cukup besar yakni 2,4 inci dengan dukungan 262 ribu warna pada resolusi 320x240 piksel. Menu dan fontasi yang tertampil di layar nyaman di mata. Di sektor ini mampu tampil dengan baik dan memanjakan penggunanya.  
Namun, PULSA merasakan ‘aura’ ponsel Cina saat pertama kali menghidupkan Motorola EX115. Bagaimana tidak, interface yang disuguhkan memiliki karakteristik sama dengan yang biasa dipajang pada ponsel Cina. Selidik punya selidik, EX115 ternyata memakai software MTK yang umumnya dibenamkan di ponsel Cina.

Terpampang 12 ikon yang berjajar dalam format grid tanpa efek animasi. Namun, agak berbeda dengan yang sering ditemukan dalam ponsel Cina, folder disimpan dalam menu alias tidak disebar memenuhi interface.
Lagi-lagi di sektor ini agak ketinggalan dibandingkan Samsung Chat T322 yang punya interface khusus DUOS UX. Personalisasi pada Samsung Chat T322 lebih atraktif dengan kemampuan menjalankan tema berbeda di setiap SIM yang aktif dan menawarkan fitur khusus bernama Smart Home.  
Kamera
Motorola EX115 menyuguhkan kamera berkekuatan maksimal 3 megapiksel. Pengaturan resolusi bisa dipilih mulai dari VGA, 1MP, 2 MP dan 3MP. Tentu saja sebuah daya tarik mengingat rata-rata ponsel Cina atau Samsung Chat T322 saja hanya menawarkan kekuatan kamera sekelas 1,3 megapiksel.
Setting kamera di dalamnya meliputi scene mode, capture mode, white balance, dan EV sepertinya cukup membantu kualitas visual gambar. Belum cukup, Motorola menjejalkan pula fitur Photo Editor untuk mengolah hasil jepretan kamera.

Hasil jepretan indoor cukup natural dan tajam. Warna tidak tertangkap maksimal namun cahaya yang didapat sudah termasuk sempurna. Hasil foto dalam kondisi indoor dengan pencahayaan lampu neon pun memuaskan meski masih dihiasi titik-titik menganggu di area gelap.
Di sektor perekam audio visual bergerak, Motorola EX115 memiliki fitur video recorder dengan setting tak jauh berbeda dengan kamera. Settingan batasan perekaman mulai dari 60 second hingga no limit durations. Untuk size rekaman bisa dipilih mulai dari 95KB, 195KB hingga 295KB.
Audio
Musik menjadi sarana hiburan vital dalam ponsel ini. Lewat pemutar musik yang didukung fasilitas equalizer area ini memberikan kontribusi signifikan pada EX115.
Sound yang keluar dari lubang speaker di belakang bodi cukup nyaring dan kuat, lebih baik dari ponsel Cina.  
Saat dinikmati dari headset dengan port audio 3,5 mm, sound terasa semakin menggigit. Kombinasi bass dan treble terasa harmonis di telinga. Satu tambahan, pemutar musik ini bisa mempercepat dan memperlambat tempo lagu. Asyik bukan?

Radio FM melengkapi kemampuan EX115. Tancapkan earphone yang berfungsi sebagai antenna untuk mengaktifkannya. Tersedia beberapa fitur seperti kemampuan menyimpan sembilan chanel list, schedule FM Radio hingga fasilitas perekam siaran.
Internet & Konektivitas
Di sini, Motorola EX115 tak berusaha tampil menonjol. Jalur data yang disuguhkan hanya sekelas GPRS. Alhasil, kecepatan akses internet tak jauh berbeda dengan ponsel Cina pada umumnya.
Browser WAP yang merupakan bawaannya bisa dipakai mengakses website mobile. Tapi kurang mumpuni untuk menjelajah website kaya konten dan fitur seperti Flash. Untuk Opera Mini, Anda harus mendownloadnya terlebih dahulu sebelum dipakai.

Perihal transfer data antar perangkat, Motorola EX115 ditopang Bluetooth dan kabel data untuk memudahkan memindahkan data. Dan saat diuji coba untuk memindahkan data jpeg berbobot 116KB proses pairingnya mudah dan tidak ada kendala.

 

Fitur Lain
Motorola EX115 sudah menanamkan My Space, Facebook dan YouTube. Tersedia juga Melody Composer untuk membuat lagu sendiri yang bisa dipakai sebagai ringtone. Aplikasi bawaan yang disuntik dalam PIM Organiser di antaranya adalah calendar, alarm, task dan

 world clock. Soal keamanan, Motorola EX115 menyediakan fitur Reject by SMS.

 

Memori internal ponsel ini berkisar sekitar 50 MB. Jika kurang memadai buat Anda, ruang penyimpanan bisa diperbesar dengan

 menambahkan kartu microSD yang bisa muat sampai kapasitas optimal 2GB.

 

Kesimpulan
Spekulasi Motorola dengan meluncurkan seri EX115 patut diacungi jempol. Namun, tak seharusnya vendor sekelas Motorola mengandalkan software MTK sebagai ‘nyawa’ ponsel ini. Samsung saja membenamkan user interface khusus untuk Chat T233-nya.
Tapi bicara soal kemampuan, Motorola EX115 termasuk menjanjikan. Lihat saja keberadaan kamera 3 megapiksel dan mutu casing yang masih sedikit lebih baik dari ponsel Cina. Belum lagi fitur dual SIM card dan disain QWERTY yang memang sengaja dihadirkan untuk mendobrak dominasi vendor lokal. (hp)

Langkah jitu dalam mendobrak dominasi ponsel brand ternama di pasar smart phone.

 

DesainDimensi Tinggi 116 mm, Lebar 60 mm, Ketebalan 11.95 mm, Berat: 120g; Bahan metal di bagian muka dan dibagian casing belakang, 4 tombol  softkey, Touchpad, port headset jack, power key, USB  port, volume key, camera key. Ponsel yang hadir dengan layar sentuh kapasitif beresolusi 320×480 dan Android OS versi 2.2 Froyo ini diramalkan bakal menjadi idola para Android-lover berdana menengah. Disainnya yang kokoh  dan dominasi space layar, mengingatkan Anda akan Samsung i5510 Galaxy. Pemilihan casing metal yang membalut ponsel ini, meminimalisir goresan, dan tidak cepat kotor. Material screen pun dipilih dari platsik berkualitas, sehingga kuat menerima respon ketukan, tekanan jari. Dari sisi ketahanan, saat ponsel ini jatuh pada ketinggian 1 meter ke atas marmer, tetap on dan tidak terdapat lecet. Layar: 3.2 inci, TFT transmissive, 320 x 480, WVGA, 262K Colour, Capacitive type touch screenPada layar touchscreennya, CSL memberikan kenyamanan visual dengan menyuguhkan tingkat kekontrasan dan pancaran prisma yang out bright (cerah). Sayangnya, aplikasi ini sempat gagal berkali-kali saat dicoba mencari dengan lebih dari dua key words. Tampilannya pun bisa dirotate. Masuk ke halaman menu, tersaji 41 ikon yang didisain grid dengan penyajian 1 sheet, yang diopersikan geser atas bawah pada touchpad. Pada sisi grafis sudah menanggalkan sisi “lokal”-nya, dan jauh tampil sempurna. Proses booting pun lumayan cepat, yakni

 sekitar 20 detik saja.

  

Kamera FotoDi sektor mengabadikan gambar, CSL Mi320 Android  membekali diri dengan kamera, dengan settingan yang tak jauh berbeda dengan HP lokal lainnya. Hanya saja, kamera ini mampu menanmpilkan gambar yang natural meski tanpa kehadiran LED Flash. Atur besaran EV sebagai managemen kepekaan cahaya yang masuk ke lensa, dan kamera bisa dirotasikan semau Anda. Shutter kamera di sisi bodi ponsel, memudahkan saat menjepret. Kualitas resolusi maksimal 2 MP dengan speed rekam @15fps, video quality (high; 30m, low; 30m, MMS;>30m, YouTube;high;10m, Custom), White balance, Color Effect. Mampu memutar file MP4, 3gp, avi, wav.Sama halnya dengan fotografi, di sektor ini CSL Mi320 Android mampu merekam gambar bergerak dengan hasil yang sedikit lebih tajam dinandingkan dengan kualitas ponsel China kebanyakan. Tampilan video bisa dirotasikan, dan tentu akan menyuguhkan tampilan yang lebih memuaskan dari sisi visual saat Anda mengunduh beragam format video misalnya dari YouTube.

Hanya saja, saat diuji coba membuka upload YouTube, proses buffered-nya memangkas waktu 20 detik, namun hal ini tekait pula dengan kestabilan jaringan operator, bukan?Bluetooth 3.0, HS, microUSB WiFi: 802.11b/g.Sebagai penopang layanan internet, dukungan koneksi ponsel ini cukup lengkap. CSL Mi320 Android  memiliki fungsi koneksi via nirkabel dengan menggunakan Bluetooth.  Saat diuji coba mentrasfer data jpeg berbobot 63,5KB ke HP Mini 110 proses pairingnya hanya memangkas waktu 10 detik saja. S-Unno, Sogou Input, Latitude, Car Home, Navigation, Places, Maps. Organiser: Notepad, Azan Alarm, Calculator, Calendar, Clock. Di luar fitur khas ponsel Android, CSL  Mi320 menyematkan fitur Car Home, yang di mana aplikasi ini sangat berguna saat Anda berkendara, karena memberikan keleluasaan berkomunikasi dengan tetap memperhatikan keamanan berkendara (save driving), di dalam aplikasi ini terdapat fitur navigate, voice search, phone, contact, dan music. Quadrant Standard Editition by Aurora Softwork Dari hasil test Benchmark yang PULSA lakukan, CSL Mi320 Android mendapatkan poin 480, melampaui kinerja  dan platform yang disandang oleh MotoDroid dan Sony Ericsson X10i.
